Our Rural Outreach Program is situated in Zhao Tong City, Zhao Yang District, Xiao Long Dong county. We work closely with the County government on the holistic sustainable development projects in that region.

Other Vocation : Van driver, coal mining, small shops

Students Sponsorship :

In the past, we sponsored over 200 children for their education. With the new policy from the Chinese government, children are given 9 years of free education. For families that are poor, the government also gives subsidies to help their livelihood. We are very happy with the government participation in the education of the children. It also free us to focus on other aspects which needed attention.

Location : Shan Ling Jiao Village (Altitude = 2800 meters)

Description :

A primary school in a village situated at an altitude of over 2800 meters was built by CARE-Venture International.

The school was designed by Patrick Oh using a sustainable building concept. That is to say, the school has Rain-water harvesting system incorporated and the school orientation takes advantages of the sun position to provide passive solar heating during Winter.

The school building fund was donated by various people worldwide; Singapore, Malaysia, Swiss, etc. and cost RMB 100,000 to build. The cost was quite high due to transportation cost and the use of outside labor.

Summer Camp :

Summer Camp is an annual program where we impart good character values to the children in the village. The camp is normally 4 days in duration and occurs during the Summer holidays somewhere late July - mid August.

We have volunteers from Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries plus occasionally volunteers from Kunming also help out.

Cattle of HOPE

Description :

Cattle-Of-HOPE is a micro-loan program where we help families to come out from poverty through the rearing of Beef-cattle. 100 families were selected based on the criteria set by us and they were given a loan of RMB 2000 to be repaid in two years time which the calculated time where profit can be made through the cattle rearing process.

A local cow is purchased by the household and then the vet will conduct artificial insemination using USA-breed sperm. In 9 months time, the cow will give birth to a calf. At the end of the loan term, the calf will be abut 1 year old and can fetch a price which allows the household to repay the loan and keeping the first cow. If the household follows the instruction given, they should have a cow and a 3 month old calf after paying the loan.

We have helped 110 families which is over 500 people through this project.

We are continuously developed creative approach to help communities. Because of our many success, we have been approached by other NGOs and government to conduct training for their staff and volunteers.

We hope to start a Sustainable Development Training Center in future when we have the fund to set it up.
